Abstract

Different political choices between spouses are a consequence of political freedom in a democratic society. Such differences do not automatically damage a marriage, but they may develop into conflict when political identity becomes personalized, communication turns coercive, and political affiliation is placed above family interests. This study analyzes the dynamics of domestic conflict arising from political differences, examines relevant principles of Islamic family law, and formulates a context-sensitive conflict resolution model for communities in East Seram Regency. It employs qualitative library research with socio-legal and social-anthropological approaches. The sources include the Qur'an, marriage regulations, the Compilation of Islamic Law, official regional publications, books, and scholarly articles on social conflict, family communication, political polarization, mubadalah, and the socio-cultural history of Seram Island. Data were analyzed through reduction, categorization, comparison, and thematic interpretation. The study finds that family harmony can be maintained through recognition of each spouse's political autonomy, accommodative communication, agreed boundaries for political discussion, family deliberation, and restorative mediation by extended family, religious leaders, or customary leaders when necessary. The principles of sakinah, mawaddah, rahmah, mu'asyarah bi al-ma'ruf, and mubadalah provide a normative basis for equal and respectful marital relations. This article proposes a "sakinah-cultural" model integrating Islamic family ethics, conflict management, political literacy, and local social capital to prevent political polarization from undermining the integrity of the family.
