Junior High School Students' Logical Thinking Ability in Solving Two-Dimentional Figure Problems

Abstract

The ability to think logically is very important for students to solve a problem in learning mathematics and in everyday life, so it is necessary to develop logical thinking skills at school. This study aims to determine the ability to think logically in class VII2 SMP Negeri 13 Central Maluku in solving the problem of flat shapes. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The research took place from February 28 to March 28, 2022. The subjects in this study consisted of two students, both of whom had differences in solving problems. The first subject (RO) represents students who answer well and meet the logical thinking indicators. While the second subject (PD) represents students who are wrong in the operation of calculations, but after intervention students are able to realize and correct them so that they are able to meet the indicators of logical thinking. The instruments in this study were researchers, test questions and interviews. Data collection techniques were taken from the implementation of tests and interviews. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the students' logical thinking ability in solving problems on the trapezoidal material met the logical thinking indicators for both students. Namely on the indicators of the continuity of thinking, the ability to argue, and drawing conclusions.
