Abstract

This study aims to determine the types of errors made by eighth grade students of SMP Negeri Satu Atap Tanah Merah in solving Pythagorean questions. This research method uses qualitative methods. The research subjects were taken 3 students from class VIII. Data collection techniques using test questions, observations and interviews. The research instrument consisted of researchers and instruments to determine student errors in solving the Pythagorean theorem questions including: test questions, observation sheets and interview guidelines. The data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman interactive model with the following steps: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The types of errors made by class VIII students of SMP Negeri Satu Atap Tanah Merah in solving the Pythagorean questions include the process transformation errors made by S1, S2 and S3 by failing to convert the questions to the correct mathematical form. Errors in understanding questions were made by S2 and S3 with errors not writing down what was known and asked. Process skill errors were made by S1, S2 and S3 because they were wrong in computing or calculations. Then the error in writing the answer was made by S1 by writing down the requested answer incorrectly and concluding the answer according to the mathematical sentence because of carelessness and lack of accuracy
