Abstract

This research entitles “Extinct Local Language cause Bilingualism and Multilingualism (Case Study to „Tana‟ Language in Ambon), is one of the survey forms, which locates in the six residences in Ambon city. The globally substantial research problems are focused on the indication of local language extinct („Tana‟ Language) by the speakers. There are three key words as main questions will be on; firstly, how does the reproduction process on the language extinct level in Ambon? Secondly, what are the factors influenced language extinct in Ambon? Thirdly, how do the contribution of „Tana‟ Language on the speaker characters or language societies? The both populating and sampling consists of 25 respondents which are the speakers „Tana‟ language. The basic theory of research analysis dimension is Post-Modernism‟ Ferdinand De Saussure. He was as modern linguist father which is supported by the other linguist such Pateda and Verhaar. The theory is the speaker characters through bilingualism or multilingualism, code-switching „alih kode‟ and code-mixing „campur kode‟, „diakronis‟ and „singkronis‟. The research significantly are (1) to see or formulate the developing potential of the „Tana‟ Language in continuing the nation local wisdom; (2) to know how far the potential of the „Tana‟ Language in continuing the nation local wisdom; (3) to describe the potential of the „Tana‟ Language in continuing the most nation local wisdom, which are caused spread ethnic and language extinct as are concepted by Post-Modernism theory of Ferdinand De Saussure. Base on that so the quest will be on the point of view through the description qualitative method. The research result point that firstly the most of respondents said consistently “not always” spoken the „Tana‟ Language in communicating with their families when they were in home or in the worker place or the public areas. Secondly, a part of them answered “often” spoken it. Thirdly, even though by a little part of them, said that “never” spoken their local language. The result so that could be concluded the percentation of the speaker characters to be potential extinct the „Tana‟ Language in the areas of Moluccas-Ambon.
