Abstrak

In the interaction between Indonesians and other nations, knowledge exchange takes place. The people of West Java and Banten absorbed the knowledge brought by adherents of Islam. One of the traces of this interaction can be traced through the pomegranate, one of the fruits used by the Arabs, Persians and Chinese. The process of Islamization that took place in Jawa Varat and Banten did not only go through thoughts. Cultural acculturation is also carried out through the plants brought. Through ethnobotanical research it is known that people have long used pomegranate for various needs. Delima is used as an Islamic identity by the people of West Java and Banten. This study shows that the pomegranate is a symbol of the Islamization that occurred in West Java and Banten. The people of West Java and Banten view pomegranate as synonymous with Islam.
