Focus and Scope

Lingue: Jurnal Bahasa, Budaya, dan Sastra publishes high-quality empirical and theoretical studies in language, literature, and culture, with particular emphasis on Indonesian and regional (local) languages, literatures, and cultural traditions, including those of Eastern Indonesia, and on how they are taught, learned, interpreted, and sustained in educational and community contexts.

The journal welcomes manuscripts that make a clear contribution to the advancement of linguistic, literary, and cultural scholarship and their pedagogy. Priority is given to studies grounded in an explicit theoretical framework and a rigorous analysis of language, literary, or cultural data. Particular attention goes to studies that examine how meaning, identity, values, and knowledge are constructed and transmitted through language, texts, and cultural practices.

The journal particularly welcomes manuscripts on:

  1. Language Studies
  • Linguistic studies, including phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and lexicology
  • Discourse analysis, including critical discourse analysis and multimodal discourse
  • Psycholinguistics, including language acquisition, processing, and bilingualism
  • Sociolinguistics, including language variation, language attitudes, and language maintenance and shift
  • Pragmatics, including speech acts, politeness, and intercultural communication
  1. Language and Literature Education
  • Indonesian language and literature teaching at primary, secondary, and higher education levels
  • Language teaching methods, curriculum, materials, and assessment, including Indonesian for Speakers of Other Languages (BIPA)
  • Technology-enhanced and AI-assisted language and literature learning, when analyzed through explicit linguistic or pedagogical perspectives
  1. Literary Studies
  • Indonesian literature, local (regional) literature, and oral literature
  • Children’s literature
  • Arabic literature and English literature, including comparative perspectives with Indonesian literature
  • Literary criticism and literary theory
  • Literary studies and character education
  1. Cultural Studies with Clear Linguistic or Literary Relevance
  • Philology, including manuscript studies and textual traditions
  • History, when examined through texts, narratives, or language
  • Cultural studies and cultural hermeneutics
  • Art and civilization, when analyzed through linguistic, literary, or semiotic approaches
  1. Integrative Studies Linking Language, Literature, Culture, and Education
  • Language, literature, and local wisdom as resources for education and character building
  • Language and cultural identity in multilingual and multicultural societies
  • Studies from Indonesia and other Global South contexts that strengthen the international relevance of language, literary, and cultural scholarship

Manuscripts are expected to:

  • demonstrate a clear linguistic, literary, or cultural framework;
  • base their analysis on systematic, verifiable data (spoken or written texts, corpora, manuscripts, classroom data, or field data);
  • show conceptual, methodological, or practical significance for researchers, educators, and practitioners.

The journal does not prioritize manuscripts that:

  • address education in general without direct relevance to language or literature learning;
  • describe cultural practices, history, or art without linguistic, literary, or textual analysis;
  • summarize or paraphrase literary works without a critical or theoretical framework;
  • Report the effectiveness of teaching media or methods without examining language or literary competence.
